I care about the restoration of the grand things expected of the human race. If black people take the vanguard in this great manifesto that must take place if we as a species of this earth are to continue I will cheer. Indeed, I feel it is our rightful place to do this. A reaffirmation of what was, if you will. It will be simply that few peoples will have had to come from so far, through so much, and survived.

In the "Katrina Series" (batiks) I sought to capture the power of water, including the figurative image of tears... and traces of water lines on buildings, selfishly marking territory… I wanted to honor the pain and loss and leave behind something beautiful. The length of these pieces is intended to capture the flow of the water. The indigo blue represents water and black represents the darkness that the water created... yet, the light shines through.

I believe that “the personal is political.” I was first instilled with this idea from my college mentor, a multitalented and interdisciplinary thinker and teacher. I had never thought of myself as an activist, but soon came to realize I was spiritually an activist. Everyday. How I spoke, looked and interacted with others was my “movement”: Encouraging, questioning and educating those around me to their own true power.

"World Peace ... Waiting to be Born"
The Earth gently spins in infinite hope.
World Peace has not yet been borne to this planet
... but it waits patiently for it's time
... ever patiently for its birth.
Actually, it is already here,
only silent and unseen,
as of yet,
just beneath the surface,
in the innermost depths of our Being.
It is an extremely potent time
... very pregnant.

The purpose of my business, "Speed Illustrations," is threefold: 1) to provide inexpensive pen & ink prints and T-shirts of high quality, 2) to educate people about the wonderful cultural diversity we all share, and 3) to provide important educational stories for identification, edification and pride for all people.
This illustration chronicles Gandhi's life as a young man in South Africa, a lawyer, and the "Great Soul" he would eventually become. Also pictured is a soul that shared his dedication and devotion to the attainment of peace through non-violent struggle, his loyal wife of 64 years, Kasturba.

My paintings contemplate, celebrate, and represent the African Diaspora’s social/ religious/ cultural experiences in North America, the Caribbean, and South America. Through my art I attempt to express the profound sense of hope, determination and joy that Blacks extracted from life during their tragic encounter with modernity. I want to visually communicate the wonderful and vibrant syncopation of black life that also structures the rhythm of the black aesthetic. I want to capture the beauty and dignity of black folk as a reality as well as an ideal. "Metamorphosis" conveys the idea of spiritual transformation... ~ James Noel

Deliverers of Light and purveyors of inspiration, and wisdom, these gatherers of the Light have planted seeds helping us tap into our true source of inspiration. Always our enlightenment and illumination is from within. Always the Light from within speaks to us individually yet, there are those special souls around us, The Light Bearers who, inspire us through their writings, poetry, living, teaching, art, music and inventions. These paintings pay homage to a few of those extraordinary individuals, public and private who have led the way for my spiritual and artistic growth and have been the inspiration to many.

Much of my work acknowledges the existence of the hidden - the inner process. The soul. Our true wealth. Inside is where we heal, where we find inner peace. The space where we dream, pray and meditate. When we are no longer at war inside ourselves, we are no longer at war with the world. This is where peace begins – inside each of us. My hope is that on viewing my work, the viewer is drawn into contact with a deeper, quieter sense of self, if only for a moment.

Commercial products are coded carriers of social and political attitudes in my art. Nails, toy soldiers, and women's handbags become the physical stand-ins for racial, sexual, and political prejudice. I engage ordinary objects of consumption to reveal their deeply rooted symbolism, an activity that offers personal and social catharsis. ~ Ramekon O'Arwisters

I consider these two

Walls of the dam holding back yesterday's tear drops are trembling from the strain, there is an urgent call for humankind to respond as healing agents, change agents, restorative agents, compassionate agents, visionary agents, fearless agents, all united in action to redeem one another. Directed by unconditional love, motivated by the hunger for peace and prosperity for mother earth and all humankind. We must celebrate each step we take as we march forward to action in solidarity, avoiding the snares of those things which separate us, endearing those things which unite us. ~ Alan Laird
